Liked did you say? Well yes, as long as it was working. More on that later.
The GOLDAIR USB MINI AIR COOLER is one of those smallish desk coolers that you pour water into, which then seeps into a filter inside the device, helping to cool the air that the fan inside the device then blows out the front.
Interestingly, with this one, they placed the filter BEHIND the fan. Usually in these types of air conditioners, the filter that gets all moist with water, is in front of the fan, so that the fan can blow the air through the filter, ending with cooler, moist air going out from the device.
With this one, it seems they believed the fan should SUCK the air in through the filter and then blow it out. I initially thought the device would have worked better if the air was blown through the filter instead of being sucked through the filter. But, I can't really fault the working of the GoldAir Mini Air Cooler. Works allright.
Not sure why but they also placed colored LED lights inside this device. I know it's a common thing for these type of small air conditioners to have, but I've wondered why. I'm not sure where you're supposed to see the lights from. The only place I could really make out is through the water level meter, which is on the side with small blocks of see-through windows. Personally I thought they might have done without the colored LED lights, which would probably have saved on the unit's price.
Another rhing I really like about it, is the easy switches on the top. It has one big round power button, which is great. It's clear and easy to find. Similar units usually have some button somewhere that you first have to look for.
With this one, once you've pressed the big round button on top, you can also adjust the fan and the LED lighting with smaller but equally clear buttons. Three blue lights marked L, M and H indicates the fan speed setting.
So, how long does this unit work for before it breaks down?
Well, I'm afraid in my experience, you can bugger it up by filling it up with too much water. That's unfortunately what I did, still early in this appliance's short life.
I filled it up and the water started spilling out from the inside. Unfortunately the USB charging hole is almost at the very bottom of the back of this unit, which means water can run over and into it very easily.
The cooler still worked when I turned it on, but the next time I wanted to use it it was completely dead. It would appear that the water must have run into the electrical components.
When I unplugged the USB cable from it, I noticed rust on the head of the USB cable. Probably there's also rust inside the power socket of this cooler now.
Unfortunately it no longer works. Bummer.
So I'm afraid all I can suggest to the user is that you must be very careful when you fill it up with water, so that you don't get water running down it into the electrical hole.
Definitely don't overfill the unit either so that water runs out of it, because the same thing will happen then too, leaving you with a completely dead unit.
So I'm afraid now I have to live without my GOLDAIR USB mini air cooler. Sad :(
